Warning: Hotel Telephone Scam

Don’t fall for the surprising simple hotel scam, where a scam artist outside of the hotel gets your credit card information very easily and with your complete trust, and here’s how:

‘Someone’ calls the front desk and asks for (example) Room 620 (which happens to be your room). Your phone rings in your room. You answer and the person on the other end says the following:

“This is the front desk. When checking in, we came cross a problem with your charge card information. Please re-read me your credit card number and verify the last 3 digits numbers at the reverse side of your charge card.”

Not thinking anything you might give this person your information, since the call seems to come from the front desk. But actually, it is a scam of someone calling from outside the hotel and got transferred to your room through the front desk.

It’s an almost embarrassingly simple scam, but thankfully it’s one that can easily fail if you follow the “duh” steps of telling the person on the line that you’ll go down to reception yourself to sort it out. Then do go down to the front desk and ask if there is a problem; if no, notify them that someone is calling the hotel with the intention of stealing guests’ credit card information.

We believe that it’s wise to be aware of this and be protective of your identity and card information, especially while travelling.

Wataniya Airways News Letter!

Dear Hessa85,

I am sorry to have to inform you that with effect from 5 December 2010, we will no longer operate flights from Kuwait to Amman, Bahrain, Damascus and Jeddah. In addition, we will reduce the frequency of services to Dubai.

We have unfortunately been forced to take this action due to adverse market conditions where huge excess capacity makes operating to some destinations currently uneconomic. Consequently, to ensure the future health and success of our airline it has been decided to adjust our current network plans and concentrate our efforts on flying to a reduced number of destinations.

If you have a booking made to one of these destinations on or after 5 December 2010, you will be contacted by our Guest Contact Centre team or your travel agent.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that this has caused to you, your family or colleagues and wish to reassure you that we will continue to offer the best possible service to those destinations where we continue to fly.

We look forward to welcoming you on board Wataniya Airways again soon.

Yours sincerely

First thing I look for in a hotel, the way in which they welcome you. You certainly feel like you are taken care of, in the best possible way. If you need any special request to be done for you, all you have to do is send an email before you arrive. For example we sent them an email requesting for a car to pick us up from the airport. When we arrived, we saw the man standing with the sign, ready to take us to the hotel.

Now, the hotel:

  • Kids: Yes, you can take your kids and they probably would have a blast. They have a special building where they have activities for the kids. Special pool for you and the kids with shallow waters.
  • Adults: For those of you looking to have peace and serenity, well you have reached the place. They have 2 swimming pools just for adults. One of the pools, have a bar and you can enjoy your virgin pina colada (which looks amazing in the coconut).
  • Concierge is helpful, helps you book your trips for islands.
  • The lobby looks great!

Location:The resort is located a bit far from the center, it takes from 30-45min to reach patong beach and the night bazaar. I actually like that because you are kinda away from all the noise.

Price: It costs around 70kd for a private villa in December

If I could describe Phuket in one word, I would probably say amazing! The people, scenery, and everything else was just spectacular. However, I will tell you that the food wasn’t that good and I don’t think that it was just my luck, the food just wasn’t what we were used to “zefara!” (keeping in mind I love seafood). What should you do?!? Always eat Italian cuisine and you’ll be more than fine! The pizzas and pasta are good over there so you don’t have to worry.

Now let me tell you about some of the trips we took and recommend you to go. There are also, other places where we couldn’t actually visit but recommend it because of what we heard:

1. Phi Phi Island Trip: You get to visit the island where Leonardo Di Caprio filmed The Beach. The beach was so white and the water was crystal clear.  There’s also the monkey beach, cute monkeys are on the island and you can feed them if you want, it was fun!

2. Canoe Trip: This was another amazing trip with a totally different experience. You’ll witness the most breathtaking scenery, surrounded with cliffs and trees while enjoying the ride of the canoeing boat. A note to the parents, there are monkeys in this trip too but you aren’t allowed to touch them.

3. Similan Island: For those of you who are looking for crystal clear beaches and less noisy beach then you should take this trip. Although it was highly recommended to us, we were too lazy to take a 2 hour trip! Plus, there was no time we wanted to sit in the resort and relax (which I will be posting about soon).

4. Fantasea: Is an incredible show that you must go to whenever your visiting Phuket. Fantasea is an animal show and you get to see elephants doing great tricks. The show is a combination of cirque du soleil and a regular circus but! the performance and level of efficiency just took me by surprise! Its a must, whether your a couple or family with kids. A carnival is held before the show. You get to enjoy carnival games, arcades, pictures with animal and buy souvenirs.

5. Night Bazaar: Didn’t quite like it because it was kind of dirty but for those of you who don’t mind and like bazaar then you should go because they have cool stuff as souvenirs.

To sum it up, Phuket is a place where you would go to enjoy the activities and the beach. And no you can not ignore the activities because its an experience you must have.

*** For those of you who want to take children and don’t know if you should? Take them because there are plenty of activities for the children too.

The European Imperial Train

Ever wondered what was the train used in the movie KNIGHT & DAY? Ok, it’s called The European Imperial Train. The train reminded me of old times, waaaay old times! Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz were in a scene in the train looking at the window which has a spectacular view. The view was of the mountains in winter season. The train travels starting from Vienna to: Melk– Linz – Salzburg – Prien am Chiemsee – Innsbruck – Seefeld – Garmisch Partenkirchen –Munich.

The jacket with the hidden pockets…

If you could pack for a vacation without using a suitcase—and thus avoid a 50+ Kd airline surcharge —wouldn’t you want to know about it? Of course you would. This is the product for you!

This jacket was so efficient that Delta airline rejected an in-flight magazine ad that had the Scottevest jacket in it. The ad stated that the jackets are designed to “beat the system”, and avoid pricey baggage fees by using pockets to store anything from your camera to an iPad. That made the airline go crazy on them!

Jeeeeezz! Delta Airlines showed its true colors!!!

Wanna beat the system too? Get yourself one of these jackets from:
