No Bullfighting in Catalonia, Spain anymore!

Bull Fighting is a historical sport that has became a part of the Spanish culture. Started in the 8th century as a celebration of crowning of King Alfonso VIII, it has carried on since

However on 28 July 2010, Catalonia’s parliament, after a long debate, voted 68 to 55 (with nine nonparticipants) in favor of banning bullfighting in Catalonia.

Under Spanish law, citizens who collect at least 50,000 signatures within 120 days in support of a proposed change in the law may present that petition to the regional parliament, obliging the latter to debate and vote on the proposal.

The Catalan vote means Article 6 of the Animal Protection Act will strictly outlaw bullfights in Catalonia from 1 January 2012.

The sinking of Costa Concordia Cruise in italy!

The Costa Concord Cruise sunk on 13th January 2012 due to running into rocks that resulted the cruise to roll spectacularly on its side.

Costa Cruises boss Pier Luigi Foschi accused the Captain of making an “unapproved, unauthorized” deviation in course & sailing too close to a nearby island in order to show the ship to locals.

The captain blames the disaster on rocks which were not on his chart.

Six people died and at least 16 are missing after the Costa Concordia’s hull was torn open on Friday 13th.

Remember when Sir Richard Branson served as a Stewardess?

Apparently, Virgin Atlantic is eager to twist every negative situation into positive by making a good publicity stunt out of it. Remember our old post LINK. Well, I remembered this yet another publicity stunt.

The Chairman of Virgin Group Sir Richard Branson dressed as a female flight attendant and served drinks on board by Air Asia X’s flight between London Stansted and Kuala Lumpur, after losing a bet with Tony Fernandes, the chief executive of the low-cost airline.

The 1996 Publicity stunt by Sir Richard when he famously wore a wedding dress for the Launch of Virgin Bride.

The two businessmen placed a wager on whose Formula One team would finish higher in the 2010 constructors’ championship. While neither Sir Richard’s Virgin Racing or Mr Fernandes’s Lotus F1 team scored a single point in 2010, Mr Fernandes won the bet by virtue of better finishing positions.

The two bosses agreed that the loser would perform flight attendant duties on board one of the other’s aircraft. Sir Richard will be expected to wear heels, make-up and a red dress, and will be asked to perform lavatory-cleaning duties.

I think seats on board the flight were auctioned, with the proceeds going to the charity of Sir Richard’s choice.

Anyway, Those who sign up to the courses can learn techniques to increase their chances of surviving a crash. It will cost around £125.

Andy Clubb, the BA manager running the course said: “It makes passengers safer when travelling by giving additional skills and information, it dispels all those internet theories about the ‘brace position, and it just gives people so much more confidence in flying.”
